Angela is not considered, by any stretch of anyone’s imagination, to be
an angry person. She has been praised all her life for her calm strength,
for her serenity in the face of great odds. Her partners praise her for
always keeping her cool.

She knows it is all a lie. For too many years now, she has raged
silently, fists clenched, teeth bared, all unspoken. She does not know
precisely what set this black spot inside her soul, but she suspects it
bloomed there the first time she saw Isabelle strapped to a gurney and
screaming until her voice rasped away into nothingness.

Isabelle saw demons all around her. Now Angela sees them as well. They
terrify her in precisely the same way that Isabelle’s screams did. And
although she still has faith, rooted in a place so deep that she rarely
has to think about it consciously, sometimes she wants very badly to open
the door to her anger and let it fly out of her like a black bird.

Constantine’s lip is starting to bleed from where she has punched him
in the mouth. His eyes are surprised, wary, and much more respectful than
they had been three seconds ago. Her hand is throbbing, and she absently
shakes it, hoping she didn’t break anything.

When he grins at her, blood staining his chin, she smiles back, and
inside some small part of her rejoices.

I don't write fic very often, but at one point I decided that the fic that I did write should be tucked away in a fic journal instead of posted to this one. Since I am unorganized, that quickly went by the wayside, and I haven't posted anything over to it in ages. So I'm going to repost them back over here, go ahead and delete the fic journal, and then put up an index page for my own benefit. Actually, I think some of it is already crossposted, so my fic tag works to bring those up. I just have to change some links around. And maybe I'll leave the fic journal up because of the communities the stories got posted to. That makes more sense.

Hmm. I've apparently written a total of ten fics, plus one giant Anita Blake one that may be a rampant Mary Sue but was just screaming to get out of me because I wanted Anita to interact with one female character who wasn't going to be a raving bitch, a submissive idiot, or a barely-there character referenced once in a rare while. I don't know whether to bring that one over here, or whether it should just be removed from the intarwebz entirely.

Edit: Woo, I've written a little more than I realized. Although I am the opposite of prolific. And aside from some mildly R-rated stuff, I really tend to write gen character study sorts of things. Perhaps that's because I suck at plotting.

Now look what you all have made me do. I take no responsibility for this ungodly Mary Sue. And there's not really any explicit registrar-on-genius-billionaire action because I wrote it in a hurry last night and got all self-conscious. Which means that even as crack fic it's probably not good for much. And I should probably mention that this was all mentally triggered by the briefest of mentions in the movie that Tony had an art collection (the Pollock-purchasing discussion).

Title: I don't know art...
Characters: Tony, ME AS A VERY THINLY DISGUISED MARY SUE
Rating: PG
A/N: Well, at least it's short. And full of art. And I really didn't have anything better to do last night.
Disclaimer: Tony Stark is not mine, but if he was mine I'd totally be gunning for the job of managing his art collection. The benefits would be fantastic.

I'm pretty sure I hired you because you know about art )

Title: Human Resources
Characters: Tony, Pepper (movieverse)
Rating: PG
A/N: Every great relationship has to start somewhere. For Pepper, it was the HR Office of Stark Industries.
Disclaimer: Not mine, dagnabbit.

Mr. Stark is simply a bit, shall we say, eccentric. )

I've been pecking away at an Iron Man fic for a couple of days now, and while bits and pieces of it please me, I keep reading other, really well-written pieces, go back and look at mine, and wonder why the heck I'm bothering. The few times I've written fic that pleased me and that I didn't hesitate about posting were all prompt-driven, and their general outlines mostly leapt unbidden into my brain. I could get it all out, tweak it a bit, and then feel comfortable with the results.

My first attempt for an Iron Man fic was deemed too sentimental by my sharp-eyed sister, and I knew she was right. And the one I'm working on now is...well, as I said, it's ok, but I wonder if I'm covering ground already taken care of by better writers. Not to mention the fact that the whole beginning-middle-end thing is not exactly working itself out for me.

That's the big issue, isn't it - the writing isn't coming magically from some corner of my brain. I'm having to work at it, and that means I'm very distrustful of the results I'm getting on the screen as I type. I find myself quadruple-guessing myself. I moan to myself about triteness, bad dialogue, verb tenses that wander back and forth like lost puppies.

Anyway, this is just a bit of a processing noodle-through. I'm not entirely sure why I write like I do, and I think all of this, failures and all, is probably good for me. At least it helps me identify my own habits so I can work on them...and maybe the end result will be that I finally finish that barely-written urban fantasy I've been trying to hash out for so long.

Well, hey!

Just posted my entry to [livejournal.com profile] 1character, on John Constantine. You can find it here. Some of the themes worked better than others, but that's the way of things for these kinds of fic challenges, I s'pose. Anyway, it's a G-rated gen piece, so no fears about being safe for work.
