My mom is apparently having a whee of a time in Dublin, which is good. On the other hand, this whole adventure of hers (Mom Gets Her Groove Back?) has been extremely disconcerting for me and Boop. We've received reports from her about places she's gone (she went to see the Book of Kells, blast her! *I* need to go see the Book of Kells!) and the things she's done (apparently she's been drinking lager? Really? And a nip or two of whiskey?) and soaking up Irish culture. But what really threw us was the whole bit about the "we have to work on getting our annulments and oh by the way we exchanged eternity rings" that she just casually threw into an email between an account of touring the Guinness factory and meeting the Irish dude's kids and grandkids.

UH WHAT? Exchanging eternity rings? Is she trying to kill us with the symbolism here?

I mean, if this guy is somebody she wants to be with in the future, hurrah for her finding new things to be happy about in life. But is it too much to ask that she go a little bit slower so her two shell-shocked daughters can keep up?

Rich new Irish daddy ahoy? Or will she get back home and decide "Eh, whatever" and decide not to see him again? It's a coin toss! Who the hell knows? Certainly not us!

At least there has been no singing of "Danny Boy." I asked.

We've already been invited to stay over any time we get to Dublin in the future. And I think mom has invited his kids and grandkids to the US to stay with them and tour DC.

My sister's response on hearing about the eternity rings:
"HE COULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT HER A NICE NECKLACE? OR MAYBE A CLADDAGH RING? I COULD LIVE WITH A CLADDAGH RING. OMFG." I have to agree with her.
