In keeping with my policy of seeing movies ages after everyone else already has, I just watched Tangled - thanks, Netflix, it's been a while since I last saw your lovely red envelopes in my mailbox.

It was absolutely delightful, quickly paced, lots of fun physical comedy and screwball daffyness. Flynn Ryder was a touch underdeveloped, but Rapunzel was lovely, lovely, lovely, and her relationship with Mother Gothel so marvelously complicated emotionally.I wish I could have seen the lantern scene on a better screen than our tiny, crappy tv, because it was gorgeous. And as is my standard procedure with Disney movies, I leaked tears the whole way through out of some sort of overstimulated happiness at all the pretty.

Of course, Maximus was my favorite. And Paschal was a non-irritating Disney sidekick animal. I still regret stupid Mooshu doing his best to wreck the otherwise awesome Mulan.

Anyway, it was a great little movie. I hope The Bear and The Bow is good - I've fallen in love with the artwork from it already.

That's a good use for it - very pretty and cheerful.

Isn't it great? I just saw it last month.

And the decision to have the animals not speak was a marvelous one, which I hope later Disney movies will emulate. I agree 100% about Mushu (Mooshu? However they spelled it), and the gargoyles in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and uh basically 95% of all animal sidekicks ever. (I do not count the Little Mermaid, because they were such a vast proportion of the speaking characters, but one could fairly do so anyway. I imprinted on that movie too young to mind.)

It's true, I'm so much more cheerful about the animal sidekicks when they're not chatting it up. And no, The Little Mermaid doesn't count. Really, I'm just still grumpy at the whole Mooshu (I don't know how they did spell it, actually) over-the-top hamming.

Tangled was such a fun one, I really enjoyed it. that scene where they're in the boat with all the lanterns going up ... gorgeous. have you seen How to Train Your Dragon yet? Dreamworks, not Disney, but I adore it, watch everytime it shows up on cable, and plan on buying it one day. So if not, highly recommended too!

My sister told me to watch How To Train Your Dragon as well, so it's next on the Netflix queue!
