Bought the first and second book on a whim, and just finished the first one today. The phrase, "a quick, fun romp" springs to mind. The writing is a little scatty at times, and dear god, if you're trying to at least attempt a mock-historical tone, having a proper young woman exclaim, "Gee!" and "Uh-oh" really distracts. Still, the heroine is fun, the hero is sexy, the storyline moves along quickly and in a satisfying way. I don't, however, feel the urge to immediately plunge into the rest of the series, because I have doubts about whether or not they'll be good. Any opinions?

I read the first and decided not to bother with any more. I did finish it, though. So - better than some, but not very good.

Yeah, I think as I was reading along, I was thinking to myself that this was fun, but had only just barely passed whatever benchmark I have for "will read." And I have my doubts that things get better.

The ending of book 2 seems to piss off a lot of people, self included (though not to a huge extent, probably because I was spoiled for what happened), but I like the characters enough to continue with the series. It's pretty much more of the same, tone and writing-wise.

I peeked at the ending before returning the second book, and it did tick me off, so I think I'll finish the rest as library books.

It was fun until the tale end of the second, which was so horrific that I've even passed on free opportunities for the third.

They're fun. The end of the second one annoyed me and the third one annoyed me throughout--had trouble believing the big plot point, based on the characters we'd met in book one. But, I'll be reading the last two, too.

I think I will end up reading them, just not buying them, because I reread a lot and try to only buy/keep books that I'll go back.

The series is spotty as hell. The first one is the best, the second is awful, the third is a slight improvement, and the fourth holds to the level of the third. I am not hopeful about five.

I got two books in and had the same issue with the clunky anachronistic dialog. Also, it sounds as if the hero spends most of book 3 being annoyingly stupid.

Yeah, I peeked at the end of book 2 and was not really excited about continuing.
