Soulless, by Gail Carriger
May. 30th, 2011 02:12 pmBought the first and second book on a whim, and just finished the first one today. The phrase, "a quick, fun romp" springs to mind. The writing is a little scatty at times, and dear god, if you're trying to at least attempt a mock-historical tone, having a proper young woman exclaim, "Gee!" and "Uh-oh" really distracts. Still, the heroine is fun, the hero is sexy, the storyline moves along quickly and in a satisfying way. I don't, however, feel the urge to immediately plunge into the rest of the series, because I have doubts about whether or not they'll be good. Any opinions?
