Wittering about Italy

The Husband's dad gave us a very healthy check for Christmas, and I'm tempted (to the point of starting to hassle The Husband about getting his passport updated) to use it on two cheap airfares to Rome. He's never been, and it's a city dear to my heart, but I've also got the niggling feeling that the money would be better spent on bills and necessities, instead of frivoling through Italy. Except that I long for Italy like wolves long for the moon - absolutely howling for it. Various friends have weighed in on the topic - a grad school friend thinks it'll revitalize me for further thesis writing, which is very optimistic of her but perhaps not the case, although I'd like to think it was so. Others have murmurred about bills being the wiser way to spend the money. Tonight, one emphatically said, "Go, go!" Every reason I have for going seems so self-serving and whiny. Wah, I want to go back to Rome because I love the city and haven't been there since 2000. I'll just wad myself up in ball and cry because I want to go. Wah, wah, wah.
