So, I can get free tickets to Modest Mouse. Only thing is, I have missed out on their wave of popularity and don't know if I could actually name a song by them. But there has been squeeing from friends, so I'm wondering: would I like them? I quite like The Killers, am so-so on Frans Ferdinand (haven't heard much from them), like the single released by The Hives but haven't heard anything else by them. Of course, I could be wrong in thinking that these bands sound anything like Modest Mouse - it's just extrapolation from what people have said.

So, what say ye? And don't think this lets you off the hook for giving me new garb ideas, neither.

Hmm. Tough call. The Mouse have a rather angular pop sense. In fact, I'm still amazed they've become as popular as they have. They've been around for years. My inclination is that you wouldn't care for them, based on your relative indifference to (the raging brilliance, brilliance!) of Franz Ferdinand (as they have vague similarities in their fondness for odd arrangements). If it didn't take me so damn long to upload, I'd post a few tracks for you -- but you can get "Float On" as a freebie here. As far as last album singles go, I prefer "The Ocean Breathes Salty." You can listen to clips on the Good News For People Who Love Bad News Amazon page, though. ("Bukowski" is my hands down favorite.) Take a gander at their past albums, too.

Ohhhh, ok. I have heard Float On before, just somehow didn't get that it was a Modest Mouse song. So that helps, a bit.

I don't know that I've heard enough to get a feel for Franz Ferdinand - I've only heard one song by them, and I liked it well enough, but I've been burned before by one great single on an album otherwise full of crap, which is apparently not the case here. (Although they may not be to my taste, necessarily.)

Hmm. I have a few days to decide. I'll maybe scrounge around and see what I can listen to of theirs and then decide. I value your feedback - you were the person who got me listening to Neko Case, I believe.

Maybe I'll post some FF for you soon, yeah?

Speaking of Neko -- I'm seeing her tonight! She's kicking off her tour here. (Unfo, doesn't look like she's going any further east than the Midwest this go around, but I'll keep you posted.) Did you ever pick up an album of hers?

Mmm, live Neko. Makes this mild hangover headache so worth it.

That would be faboo.

Yay, live Neko! Hope you had a blast. I didn't pick up an album, but I got about an album's worth of songs, and have been listening to it a lot. It took me a couple of listens to get truly hooked (Deep Red Bells is the song that made me want to keep listening), and she's not at all to my husband's taste, but I think a friend of mine is starting to dig her.

I'd never pass up a free concert. :P

In fact I went to see Britney Spears a long time ago...just 'cause it was a free ticket.

I say go for it. The live experience is always different from the albums anyway. You may absolutely love them in concert, you never know. What have ya got to lose? Except a few hours out of your life, I guess. :P

Well, I work at a place that has a concert hall attatched to it, so the opportunity for free concerts comes up often enough that it's not really a big deal (and most of the stuff that comes here is R&B stuff that I'm just not into). I'll poke around and listen to some stuff, because I hate going into a concert where I've never heard anything by the band, and see what I think. I don't think any of my in-person friends want to go see them; it's been online friends doing all the squeeing.
