Have, with the help of Bemo bandmate who owns a trailer, moved the large things (sofa, king sized mattress, my big old desk, etc) over to the new place. The cats have been moved in as well. We'll sleep there tonight. We've got four more days to get the rest of the smaller stuff, which will no doubt be a sort of endless water torture of "just one more box...no, wait, just one more besides that..." and then there will be some basic cleaning, although as the new landlord is completely remodeling all the apartments, I've asked and received permission to keep it to a minimum. No use my hand-scrubbing the carpets if they're just going to be ripped out - they're putting down tile, which is an odd choice in this climate, but whatevs.

The new place is...well, I don't know if I believe in feng shui, exactly, but it has really great energy. Both Bemo and I have noticed it. I don't know if it's just the enchantment the hardwood floors have placed on me, but the place...feels really good. It flows well, which is strange to think of since it's just your average little one-bedroom apartment. But there's a large oak tree in the front yard, and from our second floor, you look out at the right time of day and can see a smiling face made from shadows and a knot in the tree, and for somebody who loves Green Men like I do, that's a pretty powerful signal that you're in the Right Place.

Plus, it's so quiet. Not to sound too "get off my lawn, you kids," but it's nice to be in an apartment of what appear to be all adults (all solo guys, actually, from what we can tell) where there isn't a small child wailing outside in the stairwell every fifteen minutes. The old apartment had two families with multiple kids, and sometimes it felt like the sound of a crying or screaming child was the constant backdrop to our lives, along with the litter of empty Capri Sun pouches and candy wrappers that constantly appeared in front of our door.

So, having been forced to move and then attempting to make the best of it, we are now very happy that it's all playing out like this. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and we're both rather sore and weary, but the new place feels like home already, and that's hard to be sad about.
