Got back yesterday, after sprinting through Detroit's airport and suffering through the usual airplane sardine treatment. I tried to stay awake, but finally gave up and fell in bed at about four pm, to the delight of the kitties, who wanted snuggle time. Got up this morning and trotted off to work, where I excavated my inbox and got caught up on all the news (and there is always, always news of the good, bad, and ugly variety).

I'm also starting my first knitting project in ages, because my sister and I made the rounds of some yarn shops and she's gotten much better at both knit and crochet so I felt like I should give it a go again. So I bought my favorite bulky (I think it's bulky, or maybe a step below bulky) alpaca yarn in a fun purple, and I'm going to knit up a simple ribbed scarf to get my fingers going again. I don't learn well from books, so I figured I should stick to something I already know how to do, as opposed to finding some new schmancy pattern and bungling it and being sad about wasting my nice yarn.

The whole trip - both the going and the returning - felt very strange. My sister described it best when she said that it felt like Bemo and I were hanging out at my mom's house "for one very long day," because we would frequently go over there when we lived in the area. And coming home felt a bit odd as well, like we hadn't really left, or maybe like we were brand new to the area again. Hard to describe. Traveling by airplane brings you so rapidly from one reality to the next that it sometimes takes your self a little while to catch up with your body.

Anyway, it's good to be back in my own bed again, and it's good to have Kit right here, resting her head on my fingers as I type because I'm NOT paying her enough attention.
