Took Monday and Tuesday off to get some stuff done, mostly in the realm of thesis stuff. Yesterday, I went in to the National Gallery of Art's library, which is a very serene place that I like to work in. I translated a long Italian passage while it stormed outside, and felt very virtuous. My paltry Italian skills came back a trifle, although I had to look up the majority of the words. The information that the passage imparts, however, is priceless. I'm doing more translating today, but not with as much focus; however, I did run the dishwasher and thought about running the vacuum. (I decided not to, as at some point soon we're going to completely reshuffle the living room furniture, and we can get it all done then.) However, I will also be a virtuous person and clean out the litter box, because day-um, does Dexter know how to poop. He should get some sort of special medal for it.

On Friday, we were entertained at Cherbear's house, where we dined on pork chops and garlic fries and fresh broccoli and played with her owl-eyed red cat Rosalita.

Saturday and Sunday felt very "childhood summer" - I swam both days, sweated a lot, helped Persia move bookshelves, ran around with my sister, and got that weird, greasy-faced feeling that means that my skin was objecting to both the clorine in the pool water and all the sweating.

There was also lazing around while listening to the Broadway cast album of Wicked, and Paul Simon, and King's X.

Davvero avete trovato qualcosa di valioso nella biblioteca - cosa c´è?

A long passage discussing the feud between the Dominicans and the Franciscans regarding St. Catherine of Siena's depiction with stigmata, which is what my thesis (well, really a final paper - it doesn't have to be structured like a thesis) is about. I have been poking the damn paper with sticks, but since that doesn't seem to be productive, I have been trying to actually write it. For the past...uh...three years now.

What a charming subject for a final paper - lucky you! In my time, profs gave out totally dumb assignments entirely about statistics and graphs - even the history ones! - for their *own* cathedra thesis and published work; they used their students as ghostwriters but did the fun part themselves, tee hee.

I have a pal vacationing in Bologna right now (near enough to Sienna - her parents went to see the Palio, imagine) til Aug. 20 - if you need local books, pics, whatever, drop a whistle and I´ll tell her, then can scan + send to you, or post it somewhere, no problem.

That is very kind! I'll have a snoop around and see if there's a postcard or anything I could use.

Thank god, no charts or graphs. I'd be even further behind than I already am.

pssh any medal you gave Dex for pooping would surely dissolve in the wake of the FUMES produced by said poop.

I will make the medal out of titanium. Even he cannot produce poop that...well, maybe he can. Damn.
