Saturday was a lot of fun...Sunday, less so.

Saturday, the Bemo and I went to the movie on Venice and its two opposing identities: as a "museum" and as a city where real people live and work and buy bread and need childcare. Actually, I will probably do up an entry just on this topic, because I find it very interesting, especially in the light of how to be a responsible tourist. After the movie, we wandered through the National Gallery and visited some old friends of mine. Bemo is also a fan of Calder, so we visited his alcove in the East Building, where many Calder works are displayed quite fetchingly.

Sunday...ah, Sunday. It was a day of automotive disappointments that ended with the Bemo and I feeling disgusted with everything and cranky. We're trying to make it better with cookies bought at the Pepperidge Farm outlet store, but both of us are still on the surly side (not at each other, just at life.)

I think I've finally made the decision to shut down my Diaryland journal as an active writing space. I think I'll maintain it as a sort of blogroll for myself, but I realized that when I was balking at paying twelve bucks to get my Gold account back, it was probably time. And yet, I love the page design (which you can't see because the images are down until I get Gold status again) and it's been my primary journal for over three years, so some part of me wants to keep it around. In one sense, it's only a website, but in another sense, it's a small part of my personality, a place I can claim as my own.

I had to leave dland; as a free user, it rarely let me update and that was annoying.

I never had any trouble with Diaryland, even as a free user - I'd heard of problems, but I never experienced any of them directly. I did have trouble with Andrew at his other site (which may not be up anymore) that was for swapping movies and music. He never responded to any of my emails when I needed help over there, and I heard he was generally the same way for Diaryland.

Oh he was unreliable about answering things, let me tell you. The only reasons I still use d-land as my main site are simple--I have nearly 1300 entries there that I don't want to try and move, and I also don't want to abandon them, and because being able to read locked entries here requires a LJ account and about half my readers don't have that. I don't want to abandon them either, but you know how I am about privacy *g*. So I put up with the hassles. The biggest issue I have with D-land is that I have frequently had to wait anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to update. There's really no excuse for it, and I don't care what Andrew claims, it's just a cash grab to get people to sign up for his paid account shit.
