Somebody called the cops on the party the Unsupervised Teens were having across the hall. We didn't do it, although I was tempted - Bemo walked over there and asked them to turn it down at about nine, since it was practically making us vibrate off the sofa, and they turned it down but not by a whole heck of a lot. (Interestingly, when he knocked on the door he heard one of the kids yelp, "It's the police!" which means they knew they were being loud and obnoxious enough to attract attention, but that didn't lead anybody to oh, say, TURN THE MUSIC DOWN.) It was Saturday night, so I was wasn't super fussed about it since we were watching the Olympics and not trying to sleep but obviously the apartment above them must have been getting an earful - and I am unsympathetic, because those guys play their music at top volume frequently, even though they tend to stick to playing it in the middle of the day. Accordion music should not be blasting through walls, people.

It is evidence that I am a horrible person that I was gleeful as we eavesdropped on the cops giving (a very polite but pointed) warning to the kids that should they have to return, tickets would be issued and trouble would be had. The parents are apparently in Chicago or something, and the eldest daughter pounced on her opportunity. I wonder if the police will contact them or if the girl will get to hush it up?

Accordion music you can hear through the walls? Isn't that a capital offence?

I can't believe the police didn't check for alcohol! You have my sympathies. I have had those neighbors.

Ooh, this happened to my husband and me years ago, in our first apartment! The neighbors upstairs came and knocked on our door and demanded that we turn down the $@#! music already. We smiled sweetly and pointed to our floor, and they simply gaped. The police arrived shortly thereafter; the partiers let it be known that they were proud to have had their party put to end by neighbors 2 floors away, *it was THAT good*.
