I enjoyed this thoughtful post. It brings to mind, though, the stat I hear on npr an hour ago about how Seattle's population is 3% black, but the prison populatin is 20% black. My black male relatives would probably do better in Italy than they do here. This applies to them here in the US:

" if you turn the wrong corner, you find yourself face to face with entrenched attitudes about power, justice, and the law that are purely medieval and less interested in finding the guilty and preventing them from doing any more damage."

The US justice system is worse than Italy's in mine opinion, by miles and miles.
