I enjoyed this thoughtful post. It brings to mind, though, the stat I hear on npr an hour ago about how Seattle's population is 3% black, but the prison populatin is 20% black. My black male relatives would probably do better in Italy than they do here. This applies to them here in the US:

The US justice system is worse than Italy's in mine opinion, by miles and miles.
