Worcestershire sauce I can see - it has anchovy paste in it, doesn't it? But I thought he was being a "kooky Australian" for the crowd when he mentioned the Vegemite. *shudder*
These buildings are exactly the type Falco would have lived in. Not prime architecture, probably only a few stories tall because they weren't built well and therefore were rickety even in antiquity. It was right near one of the main gates, there were taverns and food vendors nearby, and an ampitheater and gladiators nearby. Very seedy but lively *g*
