*deep breath*

So. After about a year of dithering, because that's how I roll, we've taken the first step towards getting a mortgage and *gulp* buying a house. Housing prices right now are great, the tax credit for first-time buyers expires the first day of December, this city has actual affordable houses for people like us, and, darn it, it's about time, right?

Tell that to my icy fingers and upset stomach! But I'm also terribly excited at the idea of, you know, being able to paint my own walls and not have to live in an apartment where little children are left to run wild, leaving the floor outside our door littered with rubbish. I'm sure the first time the roof leaks or the stove needs to be replaced, I'll be mad that I just can't call the landlord, but we'll walk across that bridge when the floodwater rises.

The houses we've been looking at are all in the 70-80K range. Anything in the 60s and below seems to be the province of major fixer-uppers, and anything above that range would give us much too big a home-payment, but thankfully the houses in are range seem to be just fine. There is one I've already fallen in love with, but I don't know if that's where we'll end up - Bemo likes one a little bit further out of the downtown area, that's cheaper and a little bit larger, but utterly devoid of charm - it resembles a shoebox. However, our realtor assures us that there are lots of homes on the market in our price range, so maybe we'll find one that suits both of us.

I'm sure I'll be venting some of the stressbunnies that will go hopping through my brain throughout this process. But I have hopes of where it'll all lead, so...here goes!
