And then there was packing
Oct. 5th, 2008 08:42 pmDrove out about an hour to a little town called Geneva to attend an auction. There was a lot of horrible stuff, and a lot of awesome stuff, but most of the awesome stuff got bid up out of my mental price range much too quickly, and some of the other awesome stuff was just a leetle too big to fit in our Fit (like the shop counter with all the drawers that I wanted with all my heart, or the sideboard that ended up selling for seven bucks). Apparently this auction company does weekly auctions all over, and some of the upcoming ones will be near us, so we're planning to go to those. It's really odd how happy I am watching people bid on things, even if I'm not part of the action. This auction house was also a lot more with the traditional auctioneer-voice than the guys who do the surplus sales at the University. At times, it really just sounds like babble, and it's hard to keep up. Hopefully my ear will improve.
We got home, and I packed my new little suitcase for Paris. I walked the borderline between buisness and tourist by packing my dark-wash jeans and nice-but-also-comfy black and brown pants (same pant, different color) with a set of nice tops. I've got one pair of dress shoes and a pair of brown walking shoes, and may slip a pair of sandals in just to be on the safe side. It's weird trying to pack to look good in front of buisness colleages but to also bring stuff that'll be comfy as you walk all over a city. But at least my clothing won't scream AMERICAN TOURIST. I may not be taken for a Parisian, but perhaps people will assume I'm a visiting German, or something.
