The evil that lurks in the night
Sep. 15th, 2008 10:00 amWe have a nemesis! An enemy! Someone who seeks to do us harm!
The Monday after the first football game of the year, we discovered two tires on our work van, which we use very frequently for a great many things, had been slashed. There was much grumbling, and the van was towed off to be fixed, but we chalked it up to drunken football revelers. Last year there had been one or two instances of things like this happening after games, so it seemed to make sense.
The next Monday, things seemed to be ok. My boss and I drove the van around, no problems. But then on Tuesday, two tires were again flat. We weren't sure whether or not it was a slow leak and perhaps my boss and I got lucky, or if perhaps the damage hadn't been done on game day and it wasn't the fault of drunks with poor impulse control. Once again our trusty steed was hauled off to Transportation to be mended.
And again, bright and early this morning, we discovered that two tires have been slashed. This time one of our cameras caught something - a figure on a bicycle doing the deed at one-thirty in the morning. Not a drunken football fan, but rather a dark foe bent on tire destruction.
The odds are good it's a disgruntled skateboarder. We have very tempting little ramp-esque areas on our stairs, and the stairs and railings themselves are also targets. We just now are finishing up a renovation of the building, which included new stonework, and already there are scratches and scrapes. So likely somebody was caught in the act, (we do call the cops on them if they don't leave when they're asked) so perhaps one of the little idiots is feeling vengeful. I hope they nail him because this has really gotten out of hand.
