I can has bike!
Jun. 14th, 2008 05:58 pmThe deed is done! I now have a shiny new bike sitting in the kitchen.
Except it's not the one I thought I was going to get. The Moose's Tooth phoned me back up today to re-test drive the bike that was still in contention, although at a higher price than when I originally test drove it. I sped around the parking lot and back alleyways and realized that this bike was just a ton of fun. Basically, I was trying to choose between the sensible sedan - the Africabike - and the fun little sports car - the Trek that was cooing to me seductively. After some long debate in the shop, I realized that although I want an Africabike as well, the little Trek I was currently on was just too much fun to pass up. Plus, since I'd have to be lugging it down stairs to get it into the apartment, the lighter frame was actually the better option. The Africabike is built like a tank, and that's a good thing out when you're riding it, but it would mean a lot of effort actually getting it up the stairs and out the door. And since they were willing to sell me the Trek at the sale price, I went ahead and bought it along with a helmet (there are no helmet laws in the state, but I value my noggin) and a lock.
I'm so excited! Except I really did want the Africabike also. Maybe I'll get one down the road. But for now, vroom-vroom!
