Lexington is a very pretty town, and we spent quite a few hours driving along scenic byways admiring the green hills, the sprawling horse farms where the stables are fancier than most McMansions around these parts, and, in general, enjoying the scenery despite the mostly cold, windy weather. We spent much of our time there at Keenland, a very spiffy racetrack, where we placed imaginary bets on horses. I had a lovely string of losers, so it's just as well we didn't bother to put down real money. (Bemo would have made some serious coin, however.) Bemo's dad and step-mom are not always the easiest people to be around, as I'm not thrilled with their politics and with step-mom's general Southern Belle tendencies, but I brought a hostess gift and my best manners, and tried to get Bemo to do the same, and it all went smoothly.
We are too broad-shouldered to fly comfortably, however. It's a good thing Bemo and I are well-acquainted, because we were just about sitting in each other's laps. Blah.
So since I've been feeling blue, I bought another betta fish. Obviously. Anyway, he and Ishmael are currently trying to attack each other through the little tank divider, which I have been told will end after they get used to each other's presence. However, they seem pretty intent on it now, and if it doesn't slow down, I may seperate them into different tanks just for my own peace of mind. Ishmael has been so listless recently that it's pretty good to see him energetic, but I'm also worried about his little tiny fish brain overloading on all the stimulus. The new fish isn't a crowntail like Ishmael, but he's a pretty, bright blue with red fish and I will ahve to think of a good name for him.
Been reading a bunch: a good biography of Jane Austen (which made me dislike Cassandra, interestingly enough) and another biography of Harry Houdini. Am currently reading Elizabeth Bear's Blood and Iron, which I am enjoying despite wondering if the conclusion is going to be as interesting as the journey is.
Anyway, I'm going to go write for a while, as Bemo is off at rehersal.
