Voyage to Italy
Apr. 14th, 2006 11:17 pmHave just watched part one of Martin Scorsese's documentary on Italian cinema, and have consequentally cried my eyes out because neo-realist films were not what you would call upbeat. Even just seeing the snippets of the movies was pretty damn potent. The only one discussed that I had seen before now was Ladri di Bicicletti. I do, however, want to see the movie of the life of St. Francis - the monk playing Francis was just fantastic.
Also went to Good Friday services. I don't think I'm going to start attending Mass regularly at that particular church, because the priest was a little...well, he was supposed to offer a prayer after we were done with the Passion, and instead he got to the pulpit and rambled. For about twenty minutes. He was actually incoherent, plus it was delivered in a deadly monotone. I feel a bit odd criticizing a priest for the way he preached on Good Friday, but I actually could not understand him and if you asked me to recap what he said, I'd have no way to even start. On the whole, however, I was glad I went.
