Today, I was introduced to the yarn-over and learned what ssk means when encountered in a knitting pattern. I am also working with circular needles for the first time, and to make it even more exciting, the little bag I am making requires the use of two sets. Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] eccentricartist finally figured out how to purl, even if she hates the sound of squeaky acrylic yarn on plastic needles. Squeek squeek!

Yesterday I made the soup recipe I posted here a few days ago, and thankfully it was well-received. I didn't spice it up more than the recipe called for, since my taste doesn't run to extra spicy (actually, I don't really go for the spicy stuff much at all), and the majority agreed that it was just hot enough to make them sweat a bit- except Persia, who has a gullet of cast-iron and deemed it a trifle bland. She is welcome to kick her own portion up a notch *g* It seems to be a very handy recipe and others have already been telling me ways to change it into other exciting soups, so the next batch I make (probably tomorrow) will have no bell pepper but will have noodles. Along with the soup, Persia served us all her famous Iranian rice with potato and tomato, which comes with a side of plain yogurt to mix in. Yummers. To top it off, Cherbear brought cannoli, so it was a very ethnically diverse evening of dining *g*

After we ate, we all watched Grizzly Man, which was fascinating, and disturbing, and amusing, and awwww!-evoking, and ewwww!-evoking as well. My personal take on the situation is that the guy was not going to see an old age, bears or no bears, and that in fact his thirteen summers with them may have been signifigantly more than he'd have gotten had he remained in L.A., struggling to make it in Hollywood. The movie is very, very worth checking out.

In other news, I'm currently rereading Mary Gentle's Ash: A Secret History books, I have cinnamon buns in the oven, and it's been snow-flurrying all day and the wind is howling. I'm slightly concerned about Bemo, who is out driving in it. Plus, although I didn't watch the Redskins play tonight, I'm still a bit bummed about the end result. But now it is time to go frost the cinnamon buns, which means that I probably won't be bummed for much longer.
