I'm on an email list for my profession, which is where all the good job ads come across first. I delete most of them for various reasons: I don't want to move to L.A., or I'm not director-of-the-Met material, or what have you. But one of the ads I deleted was later forwarded to me by my friend Kateh, with a note attatched saying, "You should go for this one!"
It's local, and the salary is stellar. And most of the job requirements sound right up my alley. Except the title of the job doesn't say "registrar" anywhere - it says "research assistant," and one of the requirements is "scholarly research." I am, at best, an ok researcher. But I've never, for example, had to scoot off to the Library of Congress to look anything up. I've only searched their online catalogue one or two times. I quickly abandoned any sort of curatorial career path once I started working for an actual museum, and although my current job involves a small curatorial component, it's pretty limited to what I turn up in our own museum library or what's available on the internet that I can confirm as accurate.
So, I don't know. I'm going to shoot over a resume (because the worst they can say is no) but I'm not as enthused about the possibilities as much as I am for the Other Place. I'm enthused about the salary, and about the registrarial portion of the position, but if they poke at my resume and ask about research experience, I'm kind of screwed.
