little morning surprise

As I was walking across the street to get into my building this morning, I came across a strange thing to find on a Washington DC sidewalk - a very sodden peacock feather, lying forlornly in the rain. Was there a parade I missed? Did it fall out of some sort of elaborate Valentine's Day arrangement? Did I just miss the caravan with the woman in the sedan chair and the procession of bare-chested men hauling her down the street along with her menagerie of peacocks, white camels, and leopards on jeweled leashes? I'd hate to think I missed something like that.

Teddy bear!

I am accessioning a very large teddy bear. He's sitting on my scanner, with his head cocked, watching me type his information into the computer. Aside from one wonky eye, and some patches where the fur has been loved right off of him, he's a very lovely bear indeed.

Some days, I just love my job.
