Now in one handy bullet-pointed (and spoilery) list!
* Overall, they condensed that gigantic book very nicely, despite some noticable choppiness in the first half-hour or so. There was a lot of fat in the book that was ripe for the trimming, and I think a good job was done with the knife.
* Ron and Harry did a very good job - and are, I think, growing well into their roles - but there was something very off about Emma Watson. She was delivering her lines in this very strange, strident, almost clipped manner that was really offputting. It wasn't horrible all the way through, but there were moments when it was really distracting.
* I didn't mind the more emotional, less "calm and wise seer" Dumbledore (in fact, I don't think either actor has brought out Dumbledore's truly weird side) but his accent was wobbling all over the place.
* I liked the Durmstrang entrance, but was confused by the strange moaning made by the Beaux Batons girls.
* I know some people are busy perving over Harry right now, but I was too busy with Krum (and his hot Slavic classmates in their hot Slavic uniforms. Yum.)
* I like how lots of the non-trio actors had good turns: the Patil twins, the Weasley twins, Neville, Cho, Cedric...they were all fabulous, even in small parts.
* And Mad-Eye Moody ROCKED.
* So did Snape, even with a small role.
* Lots of tears just after the graveyard scene, where Harry brings Cedric's body back. The contrast between the cheers that start to fade off into horrified silence, and then up again in screams...it's interesting because there's so much danger in the wizarding world in general, but it's generally delivered in a sort of cartoony, we-can-grow-your-broken-bones-back way, that seeing real death enter that world is very shocking. Seeing Harry try to fight off Dumbledore and cling to Cedric's body, and to hear his father sobbing - very potent and moving.
* Overall,I'd place this just after Azkaban, although they're both my favorites of the lot so far.
