Sears catalog, 1935

My newest find is a very beat-up but still fascinating Sears catalog from 1935. It's interesting to get a different view on that timeperiod than what I've been getting from women's fashion and homemaking magazines. The audience was likely the same, but the presentation is pretty different.

I've put up lots of scans of women's fashion (and this catalogue will continue my reign as Friend of the Crossdresser/Girdle Fetishist over on Flickr) but here's an amusing image of a man in his undies, for variety's sake.

Excellent. Vintage ads = the greatest.

I love them so much. Need to start buying archival boxes to put them in so they're not just sitting around the house.

Three things:

Shouldn't you amend your tag line to "Not fit to touch the hem of your undergarment"?

I love the fact that men's undies are called "drawers". I don't know why. It just cracks me up.

Are there any particular women's magazines you collect? I had access to a bunch of them in an antique shop not long ago, but wasn't sure which particular journals you preferred. I'll be up in that area again in December and could do a bit of scouting for you if you'll tell me which ones you like.

I collect a range of them - I'd love to get my hands on older Vogues, but as you can imagine they're a little more difficult to snag. McCalls, Ladies Home Journal, and Good Housekeeping are usually what I end up buying - Good Housekeeping can be a little hit or miss. I generally won't pay more than twelve bucks for them, although I'd probably make an exception for a really awesome Vogue, but some of the ones I find are in the three to five dollar range.

If you spot any that have awesome ads, fashion spreads, illustrations, or photos of horrifying food, I'd definitely be interested!

I'm not sure that man has any primary sex traits.

But he has a winning smile!

Is... that what that is? :)
