I felt that way about not just MCU but DCU, especially the last Dark Grim Bastard movie. That felt not just grim, but actively grinding and depressing, and honestly sort of dull. And the end-of-the-world bit was also a problem with late Buffy -- one apocalypse, okay, two, well fine, but how many times can the End of the World be held off? Lower stakes would result in higher emotional tension, I think, at least for me.
