Star Trek: The Reboot

I dragged Bemo to the movie last night. He wasn't reluctant about it, exactly, but he also grew up watching the original series (in reruns, I think) and I believe he was not expecting it to be great despite all the hoopla. I don't think I'd consider myself a Trekker; although I did see many episodes of the original series as a kid, plus some of the movies and the animated series, plus Next Generation and a little Deep Space Nine, I wasn't exactly obsessed. I enjoyed them tremendously, but wasn't fannish, even in the limited way I might have been.

Despite that, I think I picked up most of the in-jokes that were seeded throughout the movie for the fans (I know Bemo chortled in glee at a few of the ones I missed, and I was proud of myself for catching the throwaway line about the beagle) and, all in all, enjoyed the movie thoroughly. It was well-acted, especially since the actors didn't fall over the line into parody or mimicry of the original characters. (Side note: I don't know much about Chekov, but I don't recognize much OriginalFlavor!Chekov in the adorable curly-haired moppet in this movie.)

In short, we'll probably go see it again. I don't know if the plans are to go for a franchise (I'd assume the money they're pulling in plus the love from most of the critics means yes) but if there are, I'm in it for the long haul.

They renewed Castle! Nathan Fillion gets his first second season of a tv show! My evenings of sexy sexy banter and flirting will not be disappeared! Huzzah!

Now genuinely boggled

I'm also seeing word that Dollhouse got picked up for another thirteen eps. What strange new world is this? Dare I bootydance further in my chair? Or is it all some cruel trick?

Now, I'll also expect a hell of a lot out of these 13 eps. Not much room for filler, Joss.
